Jefa Stainless Steering Wheels

Single spoke wheels

The standard Jefa steering wheels are produced in stainless steel 316 and cover a range from 600 mm to 1200 mm overall diameter in steps of 100 mm. The standard wheels up to 900 mm contain 5 tapered spokes, above 900 mm diameter the wheels contain 7 tapered spokes. The hub is made in one part and constructed on an ingenious way, so no welding of the spokes is visible at the outside. Jefa steering has chosen to use as standard a thicker diameter rim of 25 mm in stead of the industry standard of 22 mm. The standard wheels are available as polished version and covered with leather. Single spoke wheels with leather cover

For extra grip and hand protection, single spoke wheels can be covered with leather. The leather used is UV treated grey suede, RAL colour 7037. This colour will blend in nicely with all products used on the deck of a modern sailing yacht. In combination with the standard 25 mm rim, the final rim diameter will be 30 mm diameter. Tandem spoke wheels

The tandem spoke Jefa steering wheels are produced in stainless steel 316 and cover a range from 1000 mm to 1800 mm overall diameter in steps of 100 mm. The tandem spoke wheels up to 1500 mm have the 25 mm steering shaft taper, from 1600 mm diameter onwards the wheels have the 30 mm taper. The hub is made in one part and constructed on an ingenious way, so no welding of the spokes is visible at the outside. Jefa steering has chosen to use as standard a thicker diameter rim of 25 mm in stead of the industry standard of 22 mm. The tandem spoke wheels are available as polished version and covered by leather. All tandem spoke wheels have 5 sets of 2 spokes are CE approved. Please click on the picture for a larger view.

The Jefa steering wheel tapers

All wheels up to 1500 mm have the 25 mm steering shaft taper, from 1600 mm diameter onwards the wheels have the 30 mm taper. All pedestals have the 25 mm shaft and some bulkhead steerers (BS30) and transmission steering boxes are build with the 30 mm steering shaft.

Cone adapter for hydraulic pumps

All wheels up to 1500 mm can be fitted with an adapter cone for a hydraulic pump with the "small cone" as in below sketch.

Quick release wheel nut for fast wheel removal

The quick release nut is very handy when the steering wheel obstructs the free passage in the cockpit. It replaces the standard wheel nut and can be operated with a standard winch handle. This way the steering wheel can be quickly removed when not needed.

The Jefa tandem wheel disengagement unit

The tandem wheels can be fitted with a unit to prevent the wheel from rotating while under autopilot cruise. This steering wheel disengagement unit is only available for tandem wheels as the wheel hub of these type wheels is big enough to accommodate the mechanism. By rotating the black knob, the wheel is pulled backwards and 5 off pins disengage from a flange which is attached to the steering shaft. The wheel disengagement unit is a part of the steering wheel and not of the steering system. This means it can be fitted on existing steering systems. Please click on the picture for a larger view.
